Fonts Personified

July 24th, 2008 by GDK

Every wonder what kind of personality a font would have if it were a person? No, I haven’t either. But someone apparently has and put together this short video clip that I found hilarious.

“Canto Negro y Brujerias” - New Works By Miss Van & Victor Castillo

July 24th, 2008 by GDK

canto negro y brujerias

Miss Van is one of my favorite artists and I’m excited to announce that she has a show opening with new works opening in Berlin. I’m so sad that I won’t be able to go! If you live in Berlin, or are traveling there soon, this is a definite must see! Here is a description of the Canto Negro y Brujerias:

Merry Karnowsky Gallery Berlin is proud to present Canto Negro y Brujerias, featuring the paintings of Barcelona-based artists Miss Van (France) and Victor Castillo (Chile). The two unfold their unique but harmonious iconographies in a pictorial exercise of intersecting ideas. These artists approach from their personal perspectives subjects like seduction, desire, enchantment, and the game of infantile cruelty. The title of the exhibition attempts to unite these proposals and at the same time, alludes to Spanish culture, superstition and witchcraft as basic context, and dark invocations of common ghosts.

M.I.S.S. Jet Set: Websites to Bookmark for Travel

July 24th, 2008 by Dana Harrison-Tidwell - Diva In A Carry On

miss jet set

There area a ton of websites out there related to travel these days, and some very handy little clickies that I always seem to think about AFTER I get home. If you travel with your laptop, go ahead and bookmark some (or all) of these to have on hand the next time you’re on the road.

Takeout Taxi - Available in 15 states, this genius online food ordering system consolidates menus from dozens of local restaurants, lets you order whatever you choose from any or all of them, and brings everything to you straightaway. This is a perfect way to get to know some of the local cuisine if you’re really crunched for time, or if you don’t want to be shackled to the hotel’s in-house restaurant.
Creative Loafing - Available in 6 great cities, this is THE online spot for everything leisure-related you can imagine. Food, drink, dancing, arts, entertainment, coffeehouses, concerts, exhibits, museums … you name it, Creative Loafing lists it. It’s a great “zoom-in” to target exactly what you want to see and do before you hit the streets. Perfect for planning or on the spur of the moment.

Eve Launches Fetish Line for the Fourth Time

July 24th, 2008 by GDK

eve

Eve is launching her clothing line, Fetish, for the fourth time this coming holiday season.  The company has switched partners a few times and suffered production and delivery set-backs, but this time it seems like things are good to go.  Fetish has a new designer on board, Arnold Williams, who has worked with Versace, Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Narciso Rodriguez and John Varvatos.

The new Fetish line is a contemporary collection with a denim focus that includes leather jackets, oversize cozy sweaters, high-waisted denim jeans and skirts, leather pants, wool shorts, subtly logo t-shirts among other items.  The line will approximately range between $150 for denim to $1,500 for leather outerwear.

The line launches for holiday and can be found at Macy’s, Up Against the Wall, Against All Odds,  Jimmy Jazz and on the Fetish site. I don’t know about you, but I think Eve should put her dreams of being a “fashion designer” aside.  I’m not seeing anything new here and I can’t tell the difference between this and Baby Phat and Rocawear.  It all looks the same to me.  I’ve been over the “celebrity designer” game for well over a minute and I think that market is beyond over-saturated.  What do you think?  Is there more room for yet another celebrity clothing line?

If I Was A Rich Girl: Gucci Hysteria Collection

July 24th, 2008 by GDK

gucci hysteria collection
Oh, the things I would buy this upcoming season if I had a bottom-less wallet! The Gucci Hysteria collection has so many amazing accessories - complete with a knight in shining armor. I can never get tired of the Gucci logo canvas but Frida Giannini has definitely stepped up the game with lots of new touches like punk-like studs and exotic animal skins. Then of course, there’s the fun stuff. Who doesn’t need a Gucci swiss army knife? And the beanie! I have a similar Louis Vuitton one but I’m a sucker for all things black with a green and red stripe. Lastly, the over-the-knee boots are amazing - very high but not at all stripper-like. Although, for me to be able to rock those boots, I’d have to call this post, “If I Was A Tall & Rich Girl.” Ah, sigh. The grass is always greener, right? Check out more of my favorites after the jump and the Gucci Hysteria Collection Video featuring Lily Donaldson (with a dope song called Blue Jeans by Ladytron).

Mama’s Kitchen: Tiramisu

July 24th, 2008 by GDK

tiramisu
I love coffee, so it’s only natural that I love coffee-inspired desserts, the ultimate being Tiramisu. Literally meaning, “pick me up,”  Tiramisu always elevates my spirits because it’s delicious and you get that added jolt of energy from the coffee.  I’ve had countless versions of Tiramisu - some are really cakey, some are really creamy, but my favorite has always been my mom’s recipe. She’s managed to come up with the perfect balance of cakiness and creaminess in her Tiramisu. There are a few steps involved with this recipe, but it’s no bake, pretty easy and most importantly, very yummy!

Skin It Tech Covers

Skin It Patterns

Examples of patterns you can choose from on Skin It.

A little while back we let you in on Colorware - a company that makes color cases for your technology. It’s a great product, but the price can be pretty steep. I just heard about another company that offers a similar product for a fraction of the price - Skin It. For less than $30, you can cover any one of your gadgets including phones, computers, printers, calculators, personal game consoles and PDAs. They have lots of interesting patterns for you to choose from, or you can make your own custom design. Skin it is a 3M product that “assures photo quality imaging, residue free removal and air bubble free application. . . .
Skinit Skins provide a thin, photo quality protective membrane, buffering your device from occasional nicks and scratches from every day use.” Not only do they provide a protective coating, your electronics will stand apart from the rest.

Green Chic

July 23rd, 2008 by GDK

green m&m
When I was growing up, the only “green” reference was that green was the “horny” color - especially when it came to m&m’s. I don’t know how this rumor started, but somehow green become equated with horniness. These days, when I hear “green” it conjures up something very different. Thoughts of the environment, recycling and being responsible come to mind. It seems a “green” alternative is popping up for just about everything. Face it, green is the future, and some ladies are taking note. Here are some of our favorite websites that focus on all things green: Eco Stiletto, Eco Fabulous and Green, Grown and Sexy. Check them out for tips on how to be more green conscious - not the horny kind!
