Marc Jacobs for Visionaire

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

What Marc Jacobs did for the Louis Vuitton Monogram when he partnered with Takashi Murakami, the designer has now done for Visionaire. Jacobs, who serves as guest art director on Private, the 52nd installment of the fashion-forward quarterly, collaborated with photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott on a series of intimate portraits reflecting today’s most contemporary icons from New York, London, and Paris. Drew Barrymore, Selma Blair, Lil’ Kim, Scarlett Johansson, Stephanie Seymour, Gisele Bündchen, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, and even New York City Ballet principal dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied are featured in the 192-page collector’s book, which debuts October 1 for $375 and will come housed in a limited-edition Louis Vuitton gold Monogram Miroir case. Via Fashion Week Daily.

This collabo sounds nothing short of fabulous! Keeping in mind the people involved in this project, purchasing the fashion-forward quarterly would be a nice investment.

Dealers of the Purple Cloth

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Dealers of the Purple Cloth launches its first women’s line at the Magic Trade Show’s High 5 Campground this week. The line will feature ladies t-shirts, cap-sleeved hoodies, long-sleeved zip-up hoodies, varsity jackets, halter jumpers, and a long-sleeved cowl neck hoodie dress. Word up to CEO and founder Lydia Nam who pulls out all of Purple Cloth’s designs, graphics, patterns, and cut/sew herself. Go Girl!

Dealers of the Purple Cloth recognizes that there are also women out there “getting their hustle on, stacking their bread, and girls who roll out just as hard a the men do.”

Their Spring 2008 collection drops soon so check back with their site and/or, as always, we’ll also keep you posted!

Art HERstory: Corita Kent

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

When I first presented the idea of Art HERstory, one of my intentions was to give you lovely readers a starting point for your own research. I hope these posts have done just that and that you have found (and continue to find!) as much inspiration in these artists as I have.

Many of these artists have helped to form my beliefs and views of the world and the least I could do is share their life’s work and stories. This week I’m highlighting Sister Corita Kent, a courageous woman who’s art I revisit when I need to “recharge” and gain strength.

Sister Corita was the most famous nun of the 1960’s and one of the most famous graphic artists in the country, yet she is rarely mentioned in the grand history of art. Read on…

Monday, August 27th, 2007

It’s that time when the crew packs up and heads out to Las Vegas. The Mama camp will be showing their wears at Magic and I’ll be shopping and giving you the business as it goes down in Las Vegas!! On my first day in town you know I had to make way to Fruition to see their new collection of Jeremy Scott and maybe make a purchase or two. They have been fortunate enough to obtain not only current but past peices of his work and I needed to see it first hand! Added bonus was checking the two new t-shirts they dropped and peeping the Cassette Playa collection of tees too!
