DimePiece Summer Collection

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

dimepiece designs
The ladies of DimePiece have launched their summer collection and they’ve really stepped their game up. The new silhouettes and fabrications look comfy and styly all at once and look like the type of things that layer and coordinate with a multitude of pieces. I also really like the leggings - they’re a cute twist on the original. Here’s how the DimePiece ladies describe their line:

We are moving toward a more progressive and contemporary look for the urban female this season, and so we used a few different types of fabrics in our special cut and sew pieces. The new Spring/Summer 08 collection has been deeply influenced by our laid back Los Angeles lifestyle. We captured the raw social standards of the Hollywood culture and the strong perspective of the everyday woman.

The lookbook is beautiful and you can view it here. Well done ladies! You can purchase online on the DimePiece site or on Cultist. More pics after the jump.

You may remember a while back we posted on Lady Bird SF - a jewelry line based in San Francisco. The talented Nina Parks, the lady behind Lady Bird SF, is also a talented photographer. You’ve seen her work on Eyeasage’s Married to the Hustle Mixtape (you can download the mix on the sidebar), and she came to our birthday party to catch some of the action on film. Check out her pics . . .

M.I.S.S. Michelle’s Beauty Pick of the Week: Simon Says - Be an Eccentric Beauty and Read Eccentric Glamour!

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Photobucket
Finally, a fashion read with a sense of humor! A couple weeks ago, I attended the Barneys book signing of Eccentric Glamour, written by the store’s fabulously eccentric Creative Director, Simon Doonan.

Simon Doonan’s Eccentric Glamour is written as a guide from a fashion insider’s perspective to help one cultivate his or her own sense of personal style. He classifies eccentrically glamorous persons into three categories: The Gypsy, the Socialite, and the Existentialist, all having the ability to share overlapping characteristics, quite like the principles of the Ayurvedic dosha, the classification system based on body types, personality traits, and lifestyle preferences. Simon can help you discover your long lost fashion dosha, so it’s well worth the read.

Part self-help, part autobiography, the book not only includes incredibly valuable style, fashion, and beauty tips, and living and past examples of glamorous eccentrics, but is delightfully funny as well, and most importantly, is bluntly honest about what works and what does not work in the world of good eccentric fashion. His candor and general concern for the future of fashion is inspiring and most respected. I met Simon briefly at the Barneys book signing and was impressed with his ease; he didn’t seem stuffy or pretentious like some other fashion folks, and I was smitten cause he liked my glasses.

“Call me crazy, but I believe that there just might be more to being a woman than prancing around dressed like a Stepford blow-up doll. Non? In my experience you girls are highly idiosyncratic creatures whose true essence is riddled with subtlety and nuance. Your sizzling sexuality is only one aspect of a complex and intriguing picture.”

Simon said it. And I agree. So now go find your eccentrically beautiful self and get Eccentric Glamour!

Christian Louboutin at Barneys

Friday, April 25th, 2008

louboutin
Christian Louboutin will be making stops at Barneys NY in NYC and Los Angeles the first week of May. He’ll be on the fourth floor of the Madison Avenue flagship on the May 1 and in the Beverly Hills store on May 7. For the event, Monsieur Louboutin sent out sketches as invitations. When Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys, saw the invites, he decided to blow them up. Beginning today, you can see the blown up sketches in the windows at the Barneys on Mandison Avenue and in Beverly Hills. You should definitely check it out. Who wouldn’t want to meet the man behind the red sole?

LVMH’s New Addition

Friday, April 25th, 2008

hublot
Today LVMH announced the purchase of Hublot, a swiss watch company, adding to it’s jewelry and watch division which also consists of Zenith, Tag Heuer, Chaumet and Fred brands. With LVMH at it’s back, Hublot can take it’s growth to the next level and is upping the ante on the luxury watch game. Before the purchase I had not heard of Hublot but a quick look on their site and I saw that I could easily be a fan. They have “dressier” models like the ones shown above but they are best known for their Big Bang watch, which they introduced for women earlier this year - two words - black diamonds. Can’t to see what else is in store for Hublot now that LVMH has their back.

It’s Like Butter

butter london
butter LONDON is a new concept in natural nail care offering full service manicures and pedicures with guaranteed hygiene, speed, and stunning results. They have several spa kiosks popping up at airports which is the perfect spot for a quickie manicure. The best part about butter LONDON is their ground breaking line of non-toxic lacquers and nail treatments featuring the butter LONDON name. The use of toxic chemicals in nail products has long been the standard in the USA. Many beauty companies have built successful businesses on this unmonitored practice. The cost of using Formaldehyde, Toluene, and DBP is cheap. The cost to your health might not be. The three chemicals Fomaldehyde, Toluene and DBP can cause cancer, birth defects, respiratory problems, neurological damage, the list goes on. It’s refreshing to find nail color that is non-toxic. Who knew we were poisoning ourselves? Not only is butter London nail lacquer non-toxic but the colors are some of the best I’ve seen in a long time.

In honor of Earth Day, through May 15th go into your favorite participating fashion or beauty boutique and trade in three old, toxic, nail lacquers, fill out a customer profile, and in exchange, receive a coupon to redeem your free butter LONDON, 3 Free Lacquer online at www.butterlondon.com. Participating boutiques can be found here. Ooma in San Francisco is participating and as a thank you for going nontoxic, they will sweeten the deal with 15% off your entire purchase!
