green m&m
When I was growing up, the only “green” reference was that green was the “horny” color - especially when it came to m&m’s. I don’t know how this rumor started, but somehow green become equated with horniness. These days, when I hear “green” it conjures up something very different. Thoughts of the environment, recycling and being responsible come to mind. It seems a “green” alternative is popping up for just about everything. Face it, green is the future, and some ladies are taking note. Here are some of our favorite websites that focus on all things green: Eco Stiletto, Eco Fabulous and Green, Grown and Sexy. Check them out for tips on how to be more green conscious - not the horny kind!

M.I.S.S. Michelle’s Beauty Pick of the Week: Gold Fiction Causes Friction – Thanks to Chanel of Course.

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I was ecstatic to get this week’s pick, Chanel’s Gold Fiction nail polish, as a birthday gift from my girl, Jessica. Gold Fiction, a limited edition gold pigmented nail polish, comes from Chanel’s Fall 2008 makeup collection and is an exceptionally smooth, finely pigmented, gold nail polish with the most elegant shine. Hell yeah, every drop of this bad mama jama is worth it! Gold Fiction is so HOT right now, it’s the only bling you need to wear.

It seems that nails aren’t the only thing you can “press-on” these days. Now, you can press-on your eyeshadow. Forget about all the brushes and shading - now all you have to do is choose a color, press it on, and voila, you’re done! Color On offers several kits to choose from, including my favorite, the animal instincts kit which includes zebra, leopard and camouflage patterns.  If you like what you see, you can find the kits at Sephora or online here.

prescriptives custom lig gloss

These days you can customize anything from sneakers to jewelry, and now you can even customize your lip color on the Prescriptives website. It sounds a bit more complicated than it is - there are no lab coats and color mixing. You can do it all online in an easy 3 steps. First you choose one of twenty-four base shades with colors in the following color families: Berry to Fuschia, Coral to Red, and Rose to Pink. Next, you choose a finish with options ranging from Full Color, Chrome, Luster, Glitter, Sheer Sparkle and Jelly. The final step is to choose a flavor with nine yummy options including bellini, tropical, vanilla, meringue, and latte. After these simple three steps - you’re done! And for $26, you get a lip gloss just the way you like it! The packaging is great too and looks a bit like a test tube - check it out after the jump

My Two Cents: Dove’s Campaign For Real Beauty & Self Esteem Fund

Friday, July 18th, 2008

I love Dove products. But, what makes me a loyal fan of the brand is their stance on beauty and the impact of media on the self esteem of women and girls. A few years back they made a splash with their ad campaign featuring real women. Imagine that - the figures of real women in their undies was so shocking. And it wasn’t their state of undress that was shocking - it was that they weren’t anorexic stick figures! Yes, real women have curves. Dove made an statement that all women are beautiful, no matter their size: A statement that resonated and has empowered women to feel comfortable in their own skin.

Stills from the Dove Under Pressure Film

Now, they are taking their message down to women-in-the-making - young girls when they are at their most impressionable. I saw their most recent commercial, Under Pressure, and it really hit a chord. Girls are bombarded with media that tells them what is “beautiful.” I remember when I was a girl, I hated the way I looked because I was so different from the standard of “beauty” back in the hey day of Christy Brinkley. I had brown eyes and dark, curly hair - a very far cry from the crystal blue eyes and long, straight blonde hair of my Barbie doll that I looked up to as the epitome of beauty.

Dove is trying to educate girls (or rather, counter-educate them) about what beauty is and how to improve self esteem. They’ve partnered with the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A, Step Up Women’s Network and other organizations to create programs to raise self-esteem in young women. When you buy Dove products, you’re helping with the Dove Self-Esteem fund create programs and resources for young girls and to reach the targeted 5 million girls by the year 2010. I find their approach refreshing, and much needed, especially at the rate that we are exposed to media. I hope that more companies will follow Dove’s lead.

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

There’s nothing more relaxing than a day at the spa. The majority my days are spaless, so to remind me of my favorite beauty escape, I sip on spa water, and this week’s tip is
how to make my favorite version.

Now every spa has some variation of spa water. I’ve taken my favorite elements of the spa waters I’ve had over the years and came up with the following recipe, a purifying and pretty drink that will leave you feeling cool and refreshed.

M.I.S.S. Michelle’s Beauty Pick of the Week: Save the Last Lash – with Talika’s Eyelash Liposils

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Photobucket
I wear mascara every day, applying twice a day on some days. The acts of curling, coating, and cleansing contribute a significant amount of wear and tear on my lashes, which is why I have been using this week’s pick for three years now: Talika’s Eyelash Liposils.

No - No - No - Notorious

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

notorious ralph lauren

Ralph Lauren is releasing a new fragrance this fall called Notorious.  Much like the Hitchcock film Notorious, the fragrance is inspired by film noir, and is at once sexy, bold, dark and mysterious.  The bottle is very Art Deco (a bit reminiscent of Chanel, no?) and comes packaged in a black crocodile - similar to the RL Ricky bags.  The scent is described as a “sparkling spiced oriental” and includes “top notes of black currant, spicy pink peppercorn and Italian bergamot; middle notes of chocolate cosmos, white frost peonies and carnation, and bottom notes of patchouli musk, vanilla and orris.”  Notorious will launch exclusively at Bloomingdales in August and then will roll out to other department stores.  I’ve always loved the film noir look, and if this smells as good as it looks, then I can’t wait to try it out!

Renewable Clothing by Fernando Brizio

Awwwwesome…new ideas blow my mind! I Love this!

By placing colored felt-tip pens in the pockets of the dress its appearance changes over time. Within an hour - to one and a half hours the colored ink bleeds into the fabric and creates a one-off design for each occasion. the owner can then clean the dress and color it in a different way for each time they wear it.

You know you want more! Check it: Introducing Renewable Clothing by Fernando Brizio at DesignBoom.com!
