one to grow on
But I’m going to anyway. The upcoming presidential election will have an effect on us for the next 20 to 30 years. How? When you elect a president, you also need to look at his stance on the forgotten 3rd Branch of government - The Supreme Court. The President nominates potential Justices and once nominated and confirmed to the Supreme Court, Justices keep their positions for life. That means that whomever our next president nominates to the Supreme Court may have that position for many, many years.

I just read this article on NPR discussing the wide ideological differences between Obama and McCain on the abortion issue. Republican presumptive nominee McCain “has said that he would appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark court decision from the 1970s that legalized abortion.” VERY SCARY. Read the full article on how the 2 men differ on their stances here. Make informed decisions. Register to Vote. That’s one to grow on.

Inner City Snail - A Slow-Moving Street Art Project

inner city snail

I just saw these snails and these are crazy!  Slinkachu is the artist behind these little guys and working in miniature is nothing new to him.  He’s done projects with miniature people and now he’s switched up his medium to snails.  Don’t worry, no snails were harmed in the process.  Check out more here.  If you want more, he’s coming out with a book, Little People in the City, on September 5th in the U.K. and you can get it here.

m.i.a. clothing line
A few month’s back we gave you a head’s up about M.I.A.’s new clothing line. We just got some sneak peaks and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. From trademark M.I.A. tees to wildly printed hoodies, to lycra to fleece tops, each of the pieces has the M.I.A. mark on it. Think lots of color and patterns - definitely not for the shy! If music were clothing, I think these pieces are a good translation of the M.I.A. sound. I took some screenshots for you to look at and you can view the short film here. More shots after the jump!

wizard of oz shoes

Stills from the film The Wizard of Oz.  Sketches of the ruby slippers from left to right:  Jimmy Choo, Betsey Johnson, Moschino, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani and Sergio Rossi.

Next year is the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, and to commemorate the anniversary Warner Brothers Consumer Products has enlisted Swarovski and 19 designers to design their take on Dorothy’s ruby slippers.  The designers include A. Testoni, Abaeté, Alberta Ferretti, Betsey Johnson, Botkier, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lisa Pliner, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Roger Vivier, Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Tibi and Tuleh.  All of the designs will include Swarovski crystals and will be unveiled September 4th in the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue.  The shoes will take a tour and make several stops including Art Basel in Miami.  The ruby slippers will be auctioned off and the proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.  The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies and I cannot wait to see this collection!  I hope they make their way to San Francisco!
