Amy Winehouse has just released a new video for the Just Friends track off of the Back to Black Album. Ms. Winehouse has been in the press a lot lately, for all the wrong reasons, so it’s refreshing to see something new related to her music. She’s so talented, I love her voice, I only hope she can get back on track.
A few month’s back we gave you a head’s up about M.I.A.’s new clothing line. We just got some sneak peaks and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. From trademark M.I.A. tees to wildly printed hoodies, to lycra to fleece tops, each of the pieces has the M.I.A. mark on it. Think lots of color and patterns - definitely not for the shy! If music were clothing, I think these pieces are a good translation of the M.I.A. sound. I took some screenshots for you to look at and you can view the short film here. More shots after the jump! (more…)
M.I.A. is up for nomination for the MTV Video Music Awards “Best Female Video” catagory!! Both “Boyz” and “Paper Planes” have been selected. I love both of these songs but “Boyz” is my jam!! The dancing is insane!! The clothing provided by Fruition is nutty! Check-out all the nominations here. You have until this Wednesday the 23rd to cast your vote and they will announce those that make the cut on Friday the 25th. The VMA’s are on September 9th, can’t wait, can’t wait!!
If you were in NY this past weekend, it was definitely a scorcher, but that didn’t stop people from going to see Santo Gold perform at the Summer Stage in Central Park. Dante Ross was there and was kind enough to share some videos - check them out!!
Two of my favorite people have made magic. If you are in SoCal tomorrow night go witness it first hand. As part of the GLOW Festival, Bay Area artist’s Kamau Amu Patton and Suzy Poling have formed like Voltron to create a live musical video projection project. Here’s the scoop:
Singer, actress, model extraordinaire, Grace Jones, is releasing a new album called Hurricane on October 27th, 2008 in the U.K. Collaborators on the album include Brian Eno, Sly and Robbie and Tricky (I love!). Her first single, Corporate Cannibal, has already been released and you can watch the video below. I enjoyed it a lot - I like the sound, message and the video was pretty cool - putting a little artsy fartsy back where it belongs. See for yourself . . .
Seems like making short films or videos is the new blogging. The newest video-based website we’ve come across is VIMBY - Video In My Backyard - “a video content company devoted to capturing young lifestyle and culture all over the nation.” They have videos covering music, fashion, cars, travel, action sports and night life. We checked it out and there’s definitely some good content - check out some of our favorites below.
Tonight, VH1 Rock Honors celebrates one of the greatest Rock bands of all time - The Who! Guest perfomers include Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Flaming Lips, and Incubus, and the guest of honors, The Who themselves. This should be a great show full of some good ‘ol rock ‘n roll. The show airs tonight, July 17 on VH1 at 9. If you’ve got other plans, knowing VH1 I’m sure this will be on repeat if you miss it. Rock on!

Richie Rich keeps his eyes to the sky as he marches down his newly paved path!!! The Ex-Heatherette designer is flying solo, not only for his own fashion line, Rox and Riley, but straight into the Music Biz. Soaring full force, Rich will be dropping his first ever, compilation album, entitled Celebutante! Known as the ‘Club Kid’, he gathers artists to join in his scene including Scissor Sisters, Madonna, and Lil’ Mama . . . just to name a few. Keep a look out for the album that is expected to hit stores in September. But thats not all folks. Richie takes the name, Celebutante, and gives it to his new collection he’s designing, exclusively, for Hot Topic. That’s right! Anticipate it.
Now for his up and coming, shoe line, Rox and Riley, here’s a peak into the line’s launch party:
