Arsenic & Old Lace Unveiled

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

One of the events I was most looking forward to attending last week was the unveiling of the Bijules NYC’s Arsenic & Old Lace Capsule Collection that we gave you a sneak peak of a few weeks back.  I couldn’t attend at the last minute but we were able to find some photos of the unveiling at Last Night’s Party.  More photos after the jump and you can view all the photos here.

M.I.S.S. Vegas Reviews: Seventh Wonderland at L’Art Bizarre

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Seventh Wonderland is a new luxury swim wear line based in Australia.  Designed by couple Bonnie Coumbe and Carlos Aviles, the two creat high-end swim suits that are so beautiful, you can incorparate them into your non-swimming ensembles.  Carlos states:  “Girls today need options, so we’re designing fashion-savvy swimsuits that can be worn to the beach, music festivals or on a balmy night in your favorite pair of jeans.”

Seventh Wonderland uses luxurious fabrics, including silk, to craft these very special pieces.  The details are endless with beading here, ruffles there, and the silhouettes are unique but beautiful (not “unique” in a freakish way or for the sake of it).  Some of the details seemed very Art Deco to me, especially the diamond beaded insets on the bikini tops.  The cuts are feminine and flattering:  They’re not too bare on the booty, but show enough so that you can “shake what ya’ mama gave ya.”    I also have to add that the Look Book is brilliantly shot.  The models have a Robert Palmer girl look to them with slicked back hair and dramatic make-up and they were shot in front of mirrors so that you could get the front and back view in one frame.   Check out more pictures after the jump.

M.I.S.S. Vegas Review: Sir Hayes at L’Art Bizarre

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

sir hayes

Sir Hayes offers the cutest baby clothing for little knights in shining armor that I have ever seen. This is not your traditional baby blue onesies with boats on them. These are fly clothes for your lil’ man. Khalym, the designer of Sir Hayes, started out with printed tiny tees and has expanded the collection to include cut & sew for Spring 2009. The pieces are adorable!! From a windbreaker with lanyard details and hood that zips into the collar, to seersucker shorts, vests and gingham jumpsuits - it’s all too cute. The pieces take inspiration from big boy clothes and include menswear details. The clothes are made for lil’ men, from 18 months to 7 years old, but some of the pieces could definitely be unisex. Seeing these clothes makes me want to have a kid so I can dress them in Sir Hayes. Not a good reason to have a kid, but a testament to how cute these pieces are. Sir Hayes can be purchased on Digital Gravel. See more pictures after the jump.

M.I.S.S. Vegas Review: Bijules NYC at L’Art Bizarre

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

I’ve always been a fan of Bijules NYC since her iconic 1-finger bar ring came onto the scene. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her and following her collections through the years and she always manages to add an element of surprise. Her newest collection is no different, in fact, it gets the gold star for the most amazing thing I saw in Vegas (and we saw a lot!).

For Fall ‘09, Bijules introduces “Arsenic and Old Lace,” a jewelry/lingerie capsule collection that embodies the quintessential Bijules femme in black lace and delicate golden chains. The collection is sold as a set consisting of a bra, high-waisted panties, garter and garter belt. Many of the pieces can be worn several ways and have a “Light Fancy” chain link - a link that Bijules resurrected from men’s pocket watches from the 1920s. The bra can be worn as a halter with gold linked underwire or as a bandeau with gold linked straps over the shoulders. The high waisted panties feature golden linked “suspenders” (so insane!) and the garter belt has asymmetrial hook and eyes and can be worn at the hip or the waist. The garter, with dangling gold chains, can be worn on the thigh, on the neck as a choker or as a headband. Bijules wants you to get the most out of the set so she encourages you to “overwear your underwear and express what is intimate as something formal and defiant.”

The collection has a very 1920s gangster moll look that I love and is the sexiest set of lingerie I’ve seen. “Arsenic and Old Lace” is limited to a series of 15 and retails for over $1000. Each set is numbered, comes with a certificate of authenticity, and comes in a box wrapped with a pair of thigh-high stockings. For those of us who don’t have that kind of lingerie budget, Bijules has masquerade mask that can be worn as a mask or a headband. Check out the rest of the “Arsenic and Old Lace” collection after the jump, as well as, other goodies like the custom snake nail ring that Santogold wore on MTV.

M.I.S.S. Vegas Review: Linda and Leroy at L’Art Bizarre

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Linda and Leroy is a boutique handbag lne that celebrates the juxtaposition of edge and elegance.  Each exquisitely crafted bag is handmade in New York City using the highest quality lamb and goat skins from Italy, Spain, the U.K. and New Zealand.  The luxurious materials, vivid colors, slightly offbeat yet exceptionally thoughtful detailing of each bag, makes each piece a timeless wardrobe staple.

I had the chance to see the Viva Lace collection at L’Art Bizarre and these bags are beautiful.  The leather is so soft and the bag is available in striking colors like lemon ice, seaside and concord grape.  All the bags feature French lace trim and retail for $500.  Check out the rest of the pics after the jump.

M.I.S.S. Vegas Review: HVW8 Art Gallery at L’Art Bizarre

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Tyler Gibney of HVW8 Art+ Design Gallery was one of the host of L’Art Bizarre, a gifting suite that he organized with Gravis, and Bijules NYC. He showcased artwork by Kevin Lyons, Ray Noland, Brent Rollins and Parra. There was definitely a bit of Obama art represented with proceeds from the sale donated to the campaign.  Now, that’s art for a cause!  Some of the featured work also included pieces that were made as “live-art” installations where the concept of music sampling and “cutting and pasting” is applied to visual art with multiple artists making their make to create one unifying piece. The piece above of Serge Gainsbourg is from a live painting event.  HVW8 produces t-shirts for all of their openings and they do all the printing themselves.  They have their hands in all facets of culture, including music, including podcasts and original music.  If you’re in the LA area, be sure to visit the actual gallery at 661 N. Spaulding Avenue.

Check out more pieces from the HVW8 Art + Design Gallery after the jump.  All of the pieces are available for sale through HVW8.

M.I.S.S. Vegas Review: Armour Beauty at L’Art Bizarre

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Armour Beauty is the brainchild of Rocker and Model, Theo Kogan and Celebrity Make-Up Artist turned Handbag Designer, Allison Burns.  These 2 talented ladies teamed up to create Armour Beauty, “because beauty is your armour.”  The ladies create environmentally friendly lip glosses that are not only healing but also gorgeous to wear.  Some of the sumptuous ingredients include avocado butter, mango seed butter, mango oil, avocado oil, grape seed oil, shea butter and vitamin E.

Theo and Allison take their love of music and pop culture and name their glosses after their favorite Rock songs, Clubs and legendary icons.  The lip glosses are available in Opaque and Shimmer varieties, but my favorite by far is the black opaque lip gloss called Femme Fatale (pictured below left).  Check out more colors after the jump.  The lip glosses can be purchased online.

M.I.S.S. August 2008 Desktop
NEWS FLASH! The International Council of Style and Trend Forecasting (ICSTF) has just released a MAJOR trend for A/W 2008. The Council has reported that this Fall (and EVERY Fall Season for infinity and beyond), Animal prints will play a major influence. Eeeeeeeee!!!!!! We are shocked and so excited that we finally have a Fall season in which we can rock our animal prints without being laughed at for thinking so far out of the box. THANK-YOU!

Yes, this is a bit of a mockery. We get a good laugh at how every Fall season, animal print is treated like it’s the next big thing. Really, when isn’t it hot? Who doesn’t love some animal print all year around? Shooooooot. We here at M.I.S.S. love us some animal print, we even like to rock them all at once sometimes, hell, why not? A little or a lot what’s not to love. . . those critters in the jungle were on to something long before the concept of fashion existed. Just know that you really can’t go wrong with a little “animal” in your wardrobe (snake, leopard, zebra . . . ). Now, how you rock it is another story and includes a consulting fee, that can be discussed if needed . . . get at us.

Naughty or Nice?

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

That is the question. I like to think there’s a little bit of both in everybody - it creates a balance. I am a giant Bijules NYC fan and I always love what Jules creates but when I saw this Nail Wrap this morning I almost fell out of my chair. I’ve seen vintage ones (ala The Goods!), and I’ve seen newer ones online that look like monster claws. Leave it to Bijules NYC to create one that is “vixen” and “lady” all at once. I cannot tell you how much I love this and I’m not lying when I tell you that within 3 seconds of seeing it I called Jules up herself to tell her that I would be incomplete without one. The Nail Wrap is available now or at the Gen Art NY shopping event.Info: RiotttImage: Bijules NYC
