Nick Knight Shoots Bottega Veneta A/W 08-09 Campaign

Monday, July 14th, 2008

We’ve been following Nick Knight’s impressive work for some time now from his “White Wedding” campaign for Agent Provocateur to Nike’s “Art of Football” competition.  Knight’s most recent work includes shooting the new Autumn/Winter 2008-09 campaign for Bottega Veneta, a brand known for working with artistic photographers including Annie Leibovitz and Philip-Lorca de Corcia.  When asked how Knight was chosen as the campaign’s photographer,

Bottega Veneta’s creative director Tomas Maier chose Knight for his “sense of adventure”, explaining that: “Nick emphasises the process of creating images, which is similar to the way I approach design.”

As Nick Knight is known to do, the images are “digitally manipulated to create a striking composition that hints at a narrative” and can be see online this fall along with a short video.

miss june 2008

Oh yes we did. Because we know you just said to yourself, “Oh know they didn’t!” when you saw this months playmate. And why not. It’s summer time ya’ll! And what better way to celebrate the hot weather and beach days then with Nike’s vintage footwear made for the water! Introduced in the 80’s, the Nike Aqua Sock took on many variations thru the 90’s…Aqua Sock Too, Nike Foot Digs, Aqua Surf…And rightfully so, who wouldn’t want their beach get-up to be perfect from head to toe. So it was important that you had different variations of footwear for the beach. Ok, so we know people weren’t rocking these as a fashion statement back in the day, purely function over fashion…for water-play, surfing and as stated on the box “providing protection from beach elements” not to mention a killer tan line! But it’s 2008 and if you are thinking of adding some kick to your steeze with some Aqua Socks, don’t forget who put you on.

The Darkside Initiative

Nike Tops on UrbanOutfitters.com

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

nike
The ladies at Nike were nice enough to send along some of their newest tops and of course, we took it as an excuse to put together a lil’ photoshoot at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. The tops are perfect for summer - who doesn’t love half tops and muscle tanks? The inspiration for the tops came from vintage Nike pieces found at local thrift stores in Beaverton, Oregon. As the birthplace and current home of Nike, there’s a lot of that kind of stuff there (now you know where to find it!). The tank was inspired by old school muscle tanks with deep arm holes and dolphin hems. The half-top or “shimmel” is traditionally used under a football uniform but was a big hit in the 80’s so Nike kindly resurrected that for us as well.

The tops were made exclusively for Urban Outfitters and you can find the tank top here and the cropped-top here.

nike 1/1
Nike and SHOWstudio have teamed up to create an art exhibit and competition around the theme “Art of Football” and have invited 11 artists to create new work around the theme. The Art of Football pieces will be displayed in June during Art Basel, the prestigious international art exhibition that takes place in Basel, Switzerland. The artists chosen include, among others: Gareth Pugh, Alice Hawkins, Solve Sundsbo and Rebecca and Mike. Nike and SHOWstudio have opened up the game to the public, allowing anyone to submit artwork inspired by the game of Football. The eleven best entrants will be judged and have the chance to display their work alongside the other artists selected for the project. Women Making History: Claw Money

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Last Summer, THE most talked about shoe was the Claw Money x Nike Vandal Hi…and rightly so! The legendary graff writer introduced the world not only to a well-designed shoe (the Vandal Hi had been so slept on by modern designers prior to this release!) but also to a design force to be reckoned with!

Claw Money was born in Queens and raised in Long Island. After dropping out of the Fashion Institute of Technology, Claw began bombing with legendary writers and founded graff crew PMS. Claw has worked as a fashion stylist for Korn, Ice-T, Ice Cube, and Guns N’ Roses, and has styled for Nike, adidas, Sector Watches, and Guinness. She launched Claw Money, her signature clothing line, in the spring of 2002. Fashion editor of SWINDLE magazine, Claw is also co-branding with EckoRed International, Kidrobot and Hasbro, and BPMW. Featured in the 2005 documentary Infamy, Claw has also been seen in Autograf: New York City’s Graffiti Writers by Peter Sutherland (powerHouse Books, 2004), Supreme Quality and Enamelized by Roger Gastman (Gingko Press, 2005 and 2004, respectively), and has written her own book, Bombshell: The Life and Crimes of Claw Money (powerHouse Books). She’s been featured in countless magazines around the world. She lives and works in New York City.

More on this history making, lady after the jump!
