Fornarina Urban Beauty Show

fornarina urban beauty show

Fornarina hosted it’s latest Urban Beauty Show in Paris this past Monday. The seasonal party is a celebration of fashion, music and art. The party included runway shows of and sneak peaks of Spring 2009 pieces. Fornarina has worked with Miss Van (my favorite!) in the past but at the Urban Beauty Show they unveiled projects with Miss Van and 5 other artists including Junko Mizuno (another fave!), Mijn Schatje, Angelique Houtkamp, Glenn Barr, Moebius, and Tokidoki. They selected a great line-up of artists to work with and I’m very excited to see the rest of pieces!

The day was filled with big news as the brand announced that Lindsay Lohan would be the face of Fornariana, appearing in ads for the Spring 2009 campaign. With new flagships slated to open this year in London, Paris and New York, Fornarina has big plans!

New Cuteness at Colette

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

I don’t think I’ve ever gone to the Colette site and not wanted everything. I absolutely love the Tatty Devine heart sunglasses pin and heart lollipop necklace. Perfect for the little Lolita in you. And the ruggedness of the Jeremy Scott Stomp print on the ubiquitous Longchamp Pliage bag make me feel like it would be the most perfect day bag eva. You should definitely check out the site soon to see the Krink-ed out drippy version . . . the site’s been recently customized and if it’s anything like the other stuff at Colette, it won’t be around for very long.

“Atame” - New Miss Van Show in Paris

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Miss Van just opened a new gallery show this past weekend in Paris called Atame at the Galerie Magda Danysz. Her work features her lovely ladies interacting in nature with the likes of foxes, owls, birds and other furry friends. There has always been something a bit dark about her characters - they know they’re taunting you with their long eyelashes and sultry pouts. Her latest works reveal something a bit darker, long hair overgrown and covering the eyes and almost encasing the body. It’s wonderful to see how an artist’s work matures and progresses and no matter what I see from Miss Van, I always love it. If you’re in Paris, this is a must see and the show runs through December 29th. If you won’t be in Paris, you can view the pieces online here and buy some prints here.Galerie Magda Danysz78, rue Amelot - Paris XITel. / fax : +33(0)1 45 83 38 51Images: Galerie Magda DanyszCheck out more pics after the jump . . . . Store Review: Noir Kennedy, Paris

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

While shopping in Paris I stumbled upon a boutique called Noir Kennedy that I had to go into because it was so unique and different from all the other shops that I had seen. Punk is certainly not dead, in fact it’s thriving at Noir Kennedy. From the music to the rats hanging from the ceiling, this shop is a punk/rock/goth paradise. There’s definitely something for everyone but some of the brands they carry are Merc, Harrington, Keednim and Cheap Monday. They also have an amazing selection of vintage including rock tees, dresses, tops, shoes and other accessories.

New Stuff at Colette

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Colette always manages to have an art show that I want to see or some unique products that I must have. This month is no different. These are my faves for this month. . .
helvetica
“Happy Birthday Helvetica” an exhibit from September 3rd - 29th, celebrates 50 years of Helvetica Typography. Look out for exclusive products created for the 50th Birthday of the Type.

troubled teens
Also running from September 3rd - 29th, “Troubled Teens” features photographs by Angela Boatwright and Patrick O’Dell documenting the angst of teens from North America and Europe.
jeremy scott longchamp
We’ve had Jeremy Scott up on the blog in a bunch of different posts this week and he’s managed to make it into another. He teamed up with Longchamp to create their signature foldable Longchamp Le Pliage bag with a pink poodle graphic. Only 100 bags were made and Colette has all of them. The bags are available online. They also have the Jeremy Scott x Ksubi denim collection and the Jeremy Scott Happy Daze collection. I know - go shopping now!!
Cécile TOGNI by Lancel
I’m a sucker for travel gear - especially stiletto bags to match your luggage. Cécile Togni teamed up Lancel, a chic Parisian line of luggage to create a line of travel accessories. The pieces are available online.

If you’re in Paris it’s a must see and if you’re not there, check out their site. Happy Shopping!

Paris Spring Couture Collections

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

OMG! Where have I been the past few days? Unfortunately, not in Paris. The Spring Couture shows have been going on and the pieces are incredible. It’s all about the details and trust me no expense is spared on these collections. My favorites are Chanel (big surprise), Dior, Christian Lacroix and Elie Saab.

Chanel

Staying true to the Chanel aesthetic we’ve come to know and love, Karl Lagerfeld was able to put together another impressive show. The first few pieces were plays on the Chanel tweed suit and "basic" (for Chanel) black and white pieces. He then had pieces with feather details that were beautiful and airy yet didn’t make you look like Big Bird. The accessories were awesome - from the leather gloves to the really wide hoops (metal, feather covered and multi hoop), to the shoes . . . I saw many many items that I would love to have and mash up with some streetwear.

Dior

Wow. John Galliano is always theatrical but this seasons collection, inspired by the Opera Madame Butterfly, was utterly breathtaking. This is one of the most beautiful collections I’ve seen in a long time. It’s exciting to see how a designer interprets his inspiration and makes it his own. I’m not sure where one would wear these pieces but they’re the kind that you’d expect to see in a Museum. No detail was missed, kimonos, obis and geisha makeup were abundunt. Some of the pieces actually looked like origami. The folding and draping is exquisite. Sigh. I want one of everything.

Christian Lacroix

Flowers, flowers, flowers. Christian Lacroix seemed to be inspired by the most ubiquitous of spring symbols - the flower. Whether it was floral print fabric, flower appliques or reshaping the lady as flower - it was all beautifully done. All types of flowers were represented from roses, peonies, violets, marigolds, and geraniums. Again, not the most wearable stuff, but oh, so pretty!

Elie Saab

A lot less theatrical than his counterparts, Elie Saab’s show was one award ceremony dress after another. That doesn’t make them any less beautiful, just a bit more grounded in what women are actually wearing. Inspired by the "colors of dawn over Beiruit" I loved his color palette and particularly liked his bold use of color on the gowns. He then brought in a bit of glitz which was very reminiscent of the Studio 54 look - which is fine by me!
